[ it’s so easy to rile dextera up with words—but touch is always strangely comforting to him, when he’s been denied it for so long. guren can’t ruffle his hair and expect to get away with it not being a little tender. ]

[ all of guren’s suggestions sound good... they should try talking to the forest creatures, but dextera has just a few more questions for leliel before they establish that.

so he looks back at guren, asking for patience in his gaze, and then taps leliel to get her attention. once he has it, he has one important thing, above all else, to ask her...! ]

[ and she looks at him, tilting her head this way and that, until finally she clucks out a yes. ]

[What an obvious question! Guren says nothing, watching this tender moment with plenty of patience. It's nice to watch. To see someone, even if it's an animal, telling Dextera that he's doing good, that he's making her happy. He wishes he could have this all the time. But of course, these potions are all so dangerous. What he has left is probably all he'll get.

Guren keeps his hands in his pockets and glances away after a moment, like he's not really watching, even if he totally is paying attention.]

[ it’s not obvious to him!!

dextera worries, often, that he’s not doing enough for her. that maybe his hands are too covered in blood to take care of such an innocent living thing, and he’s going to ruin her because that’s what he does.

so, having her approval... it’s a relief. ]

[ he lets himself indulge a few more questions, to find out what food she likes the most and if she needs anything—then he nods, satisfied.

there’s still some potion left, but he wants to save it. for now, they should probably do more than just bum around. dextera didn’t expect that the potion would be so useful! ]

[He assumes that's what that nod means.] I doubt the other chickens out front will have much more to say, but we might as well stop there, first.

[ guren, please don't insult the ladies!! they probably have a lot to talk about, like bugs, and dirt, and how hungry they are all the time. leliel seems like she'll be satisfied with this water and her treats, so dextera nods.

on his way out the door, though, there's a soft kweh from the window, and dextera glances back—it's a meaningless sound, just to get attention, or else they both would have been able to understand it. ]

...?

[ it's spot!!! with a very important secret!!! ]

[Being called to by a chocobo... This is what his life has become. Guren turns back, stepping into the house to find the bird-thing and glancing back to be sure Dextera is with him.]

You got something to say, too?

[ another sound, and this one definitely means for guren to SQUARE UP, PUNK, for taking that tone. ]

Ah—

[ wait, dextera doesn’t want the two of them to fight? be gentle with spot, guren. ]

[swordfucker]

[HE JUST GOT SASSED AT BY A BIRD??? But don't worry, Dextera, he won't fight it. He's kind of surprised, honestly, so he just stays there silently, giving it a flat look. Go on, then.]

[ this time, spot withdraws from the window, and dextera peeks back to wonder about where he's headed? he doesn't have to wonder for long, though, because apparently spot has decided to circle around behind them to meet them at the door. ]

Oh.

[ a soft, excited noise, and dextera nods in greeting before spot decides to gently headbutt guren in the lower back. ]

[swordfucker]

Hey!

[He's not gonna fight a bird, so he just kind of stumbles forward and whirls around to stare at it. WHAT GIVES???]

[ why is this so tense... why is spot like this? the more dextera looks, though, the more dextera realizes that it doesn't seem like spot is mad. ]

...

[ with the next noise spot makes—hand? down? why?—it's obvious. he's asking to be pet, because guren does not ever give him enough attention when he's over here. dextera pauses, and a smile sort of helplessly breaks across his face.

spot is just pretty aggressive about wanting affection. ]

[swordfucker]

Hahh?

[Guren, of course, doesn't get it that well at all. Hand... He puts his hand on Spot's head, but he doesn't understand why he's being headbutted and then asked for pets. This doesn't make sense!! Is he hated or not!!]

You're not making any sense, you weird bird. [GUREN... How can he pet so affectionately while saying these things...]

[ dextera is still smiling, when he steps forward to place his hand over guren's. that's not where spot likes to be pet! he is, by now, an expert at this bird—even if spot seems much smarter than a big animal should. ]

...heh.

[ he shakes his head, and then guides guren's hand down to spot's neck, under the fluff of feathers that almost looks like a crown, or some cool slicked-back hairstyle. here! scratch here!! ]

[swordfucker]

Tch.

[Dumb!!! But alright, he calms down visibly at Dextera's guiding hand, watching quietly as he's moved to the correct spot. Here? Alright... He'll give the bird little scritches right here.]

...Better?

[ dextera nods, and only a moment later realizes that guren was probably talking to the bird, who then pushes his beak against guren's hand with a soft coo that means nothing. like a happy sigh, which dextera is happy to leave him to because he's a little embarrassed at answering something that wasn't meant for him. ]

[swordfucker]

[Oh my god, RIP Dextera because Guren definitely saw that. He pauses just a moment, watching Spot, and then turning to look at Dextera again.

He moves his hand away from spot and scritches at the air between himself and Dex.]

You want some, too?

[HE'S TEASING SO RUDELY]

[ don’t tease him! he knows that he made a little goof here, and he gently pushes guren’s hand away from him and shakes his head firmly.

no! thank! you! ]

[swordfucker]

Hahaha.

[Guren can't help but laugh, grinning as he pulls away from both Spot and Dextera, turning to leave the house again.]

Come on, let's get going. We don't know how long this potion lasts.
