NAME: Guren Ichinose
CANON: Seraph of the End
CANON POINT: Ch 71 + Awash CRAU
AGE: 25 (aged in other game!)
BACKGROUND:
- Here for the wiki!
- Largely, Guren ended up the same as in canon. This is due to him still hiding secrets, keeping things on his own shoulders, and trying to do too much. He had the defense force, which he constantly assigned teams and activities to help characters become closer with one another to encourage strength, and he also secretly experimented with drugs on himself on the side to create some drugs to help with effects from the events.
- There were a few people he got closer to, though! The one he got closest to was Dextera, who will also be apping. Since they were together from the start and went through so much together, and probably partially in part to Dextera always needing physical comfort/to spell out words on his hand before he knew sign language, they became close. To Guren now, this is someone who's alive that he wants to keep safe no matter what, unlike what happened to Mahiru. Because of that, he still does keep certain things to himself and is struggling with deciding to distance himself more or come back and comfort Dex.
- One of those big events was that he was part of a group of six that took down the Bogeyman! In order to manage it, three members of the team died. Because Guren took on the role as leader and made the strategy, he blames himself even if they were separated and it wasn't really his fault at all. Dextera was one of the ones who died, too, which added that shock factor and created more closeness but also reinforced that he needs to remember to always keep some distance.
- Because it had been nearly a year that he was missing from home, and none of his friends that he'd revived arrived in the town, Guren was very worried about the Seraph of the end project and his other plants back home. It's really tired him out, but he's kind of in the same spot in canon anyway now.
- Which brings me to this, that he canon updated during the end of his time in Awash. That at least put his mind at ease about how time works while stuck in a place, but it also means he's in a more mentally tired place with the demon taking over more of his heart, and that personality being in charge more often.
- Honestly not much else has changed... In the similar way that Guren's personality hardly changed from when he was a teenager to now, he's the sort of stubborn person who grows easily close to others, but also is so stuck and firm on his own thoughts and decisions that even those close to him have trouble changing his mind. In Awash, he did a lot of crazy things for quests from fighting monsters to receiving flower crowns, so it was just a range of ridiculous things that brought him closer to others but really only reinforced his viewpoints.

PERSONALITY:
- Guren is a smart-talking, lazy man who would rather go nap than sit through an important meeting. At least, that's the way he acts. He teaches a class that he rarely shows up to, he serves under members of the Hiiragi family that he has no problem showing disrespect to in order to leave, and he comes off as blunt and uncaring. He's serious, cold and distant, freely stating things that easily offend and upset others. He doesn't hold back on insults. However, despite his tough exterior, he's actually a very kind soul who cares about his friends and subordinates above all.
He's actually embarrassed by how much he cares and constantly denies when he's called out on it. By pretending to be cold, he can appear less considerate, such as the time he took three students to try wielding a weapon of the black demon series, risking their lives. He pretended that one of them had lost his life completely when the demon took over, despite actually knowing that he could be saved. He's constantly doing things like this— his entire upbringing of Yuu shows him calling him names when really, between those harsh words, he was actually guiding him in the right direction, encouraging him to find a reason to live.
This stubbornness to keep his "soft" personality hidden, despite how obvious it still is, also leads to him being someone who takes far too much on his own shoulders. Shinya, a close friend of Guren's, is someone that can read him the best, and constantly calls him out on this. Though he tries his best to encourage Guren to rely on others a little more, Guren still holds many secrets as he feels it's necessary for the safety of those around him. His kindness is actually a fault, and Kureto, his superior, is someone who calls it a weakness. When Guren's friends die, and he's heartbroken that he couldn't save them, he knowingly decides to initiate the apocalypse by bringing them back to life. Immediately after making this decision, he learns that if his revived friends were to find out that he did this, they would turn to dust and die once more.
After that, Guren only proceeds to keep things to himself more. He has always considered his friends and subordinates to be family, and this shows just how far he'll go for that family. This explains the way he leads as a Lt. Colonel, as well, emphasizing on the importance of "family." One of the things that's very clear about Guren is that he'll take any amount of punishment or harm towards himself if it means moving forward or receiving something he feels is deserved. He's shown to be able to act like a weak underling and hold back from speaking up to the Hiiragis, and when the sister of his dead lover threatens him with a weapon for killing his lover, he tells her that he would've let her do it. This just shows his guilt and kindness together.
He doesn't stop moving towards his goals, no matter the cost. Though Guren is someone who doesn't like seeing anyone die or suffer, canon shows that he's allowed his demonic personality to take control more often in order to further his end goal: reviving everyone who died. He knows that his own human personality is too weak to handle what's necessary to achieve this on his own, so he allows this to an extent, but it's also the demon taking advantage of his kindness. At these points, his namanari personality takes over.
Unlike his teenage years, Guren's demonic personality is now a lot more controlled. While the demon's in control, he becomes ruthless, cutting down his own men to serve as blood sacrifices for the Seraph of the end experiment, which is apparently helping lead towards his end goal. His two sides still do clash, as when the human side of Guren tries to break through in this big fight, he begins to cry until his demon self tells him he can't come back yet, as this would break his heart. They're two pieces of one man now, working together to reach the same goal. His demon self is very motivated in bringing down the Hiiragi family from the throne they sit on, and while this does stem from his actual desire for equality, it's clearly more extreme while he's wearing this personality. His human self finds it painful to live, but still moves forward, trying his best to reverse all the suffering he believes he caused.
We're also told this personality of Guren's takes over more than is even noticeable since it's so capable of appearing normal to achieve his goals. There are no physical signs of being a namanari now unless the human personality is struggling against it. The transformation can take place at any time, and while Guren inside is ruthless and cunning, he can still move along and pretend to be his normal human self. A lot of this is thanks in part to how Guren's kind heart can't be fully taken over. No matter how much he's given up his own humanity, the part of him that would mourn for lives taken and injured is too strong to be taken over by demonic desire or lust.
Thanks to all that he's dealt with over the years, Guren's core personality hasn't changed much since he was a teenager. He'd been forced to grow up fast, allowing himself to lower his head to any authority in order to move forward in the world and plotting his next move at every opportunity. He's kind, though he'll deny it, and while he's made a large amount of mistakes that have altered the entire world and sped the apocalypse along, it's clear that his motivations are centered in goodness. But those bad decisions weigh down on Guren, and he views himself as a bad person, shouldering the weight of it all entirely alone and playing it off with laziness and coldness.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
- Spell Tags - The Owari no Seraph universe allows magic in the form of these spell tags (through Fudo Myo-o) that can do various things. What has been shown in canon is mainly things like exploding tags (place the paper on someone and it explodes), sound muffling tags (literally just muffles noise by sticking the paper on things), blocking demonic energy, talismans on equipment to suppress power, and things similar to that. Guren is very capable with these, even if they're kind of a minor side thing in comparison to the demon swords. Basically, a large number of them could create complex spells, a smaller number would do more like start a fire or muffle sound.
Namanari - A namanari is a "half-demon", or a human with two personalities (the human and the demonic) that's one step short of becoming a full demon. For Guren, his demonic personality has been coming out since he was young through his various black series weapons, and now with Mahiru-no-yo, it can completely blend in with his human personality. It's his own personality but more ruthless and focused on desires/emotions, which I already included in the personality above. Though namanaris usually can show physical differences in the appearance of the human's body, Guren's doesn't change at all. It does, however, show curse marks over his skin when his human personality begins to struggle to fight off the demon side, or when he needs more of the drug. These are the same curse marks that can appear when any demon weapon user connects with the demon on the brink of being taken over in order to use as much power as possible.
Demon Blade Mahiru-no-yo - This is where the majority of his abilities come from. The demon inside of his cursed gear has the appearance of his dead lover, Mahiru. This is because Mahiru actually took Guren's old demon sort, Noya, and stabbed herself with it, and as she died she was absorbed into the sword. This is after Mahiru had already been completely lost to her own demon weapon and taken over completely by her demonic personality, killing her human side. It is her, technically, but Guren stresses in multiple cases that "Mahiru is dead" and that this is just a demon. Mahiru went through many changes in personality due to becoming a namanari, vampire, and then full demon, so this Mahiru is completely different from the Mahiru that was alive. Due to how this words, this is how I will RP with it in the game so long as it's allowed:
- • (WHILE MAHIRU IS PLAYED IN GAME) If there already is a Mahiru in the game, Guren will still be able to use all of the below powers, but will not hear or see her at all. He'll only feel her power.
• (WHILE NO MAHIRU IS PLAYED IN GAME) She can speak to Guren through his mind, and manifest in front of him. In the manga itself, she has a strange ability to project herself further than that and is even noticed by one other demon in her form and by a vampire as a "strange feeling", but that isn't explained yet, so in RP: only Guren can see and hear her, but she may pretend to interact with others just to get a rise out of him.
•Extra power/strength. Just by drawing the blade, Guren's strength increases considerably. By calling Mahiru-no-yo's name, it increases even more.
• Accelerated healing. He has taken stabs through the chest multiple times and healed quickly. He's also lost an arm and was able to have it reattached thanks to the healing. He also was once nearly beheaded and managed to heal from it. He can only accomplish this with the demon's power, though, since the demon is always a part of his soul, it automatically begins to heal him when he's injured. Something like a stab to the chest can take a day or so to heal, but smaller wounds can seal up much quicker. He can still be killed, it's just harder.
• Possession. By giving himself up more completely, he can be "possessed" by Mahiru-no-yo. This is just how possession-type demons work. It's his demonic personality that takes over in this case if he's completely possessed, but if he just calls her name and allows the partial possession, then it could be either personality. The more he gives himself up to the demon, the more power, and the more dangerous it is that his human personality might lose control, basically.
• Demonic aura. He can strike his sword into the ground and summon the demonic aura from it. This can cause normal people and even well-trained soldiers to pass out instantly or struggle in pain. You're able to resist it with wards/spell tags, or if you have enough strength and willpower, but those who have high psychic resistance won't feel anything at all.
• Devours attacks. He calls on Mahiru-no-yo to "devour" an attack. He's used this both to strike his sword through an oncoming attack and make it vanish (if it's not strong compared to him), lessen the oncoming attack, or to take part of an attack or force and lessen his impact when falling.
Drugs - Drugs are heavily used in the Owari no Seraph universe. Guren has been shown giving drug cocktails to Yuu to keep his crazy powers in check, but he has a couple that he uses himself. The first is the standard doping pill set for the Moon Demon Company. Taking one tablet increases his synchronization with his demon up to 150%, 2 tablets would take it up to 180% but risk death due to shock on the body, and 3 would just rupture all internal organs. They take ten seconds to work, and then work for 15 minutes before that synchronization drops to 0%, leaving the user completely defenseless. They're for emergency situations where it's important to increase power in a short amount of time, even while decreasing endurance considerably. The other drug Guren uses is a newly developed one taken by syringe that allows him to suppress the demon and stay in control, even while using its power. He's shown using it and speaks about it, saying that it allows him to stay in control, and that he's not possessed by his demon. We don't have all of the details on this drug, as Guren could still be hiding things, but I'll be playing it for now as if it does control his demonic side more and keep it in check.
